Reviewing the planting.
14/10/2007Two trees that have grown too large, have been chopped down and the light is now much better in the 'bulb corner', as well as providing a planting opportunity for more cyclamen once a good layer of compost has been put down.
I am making notes of plants that have outgrown their space, and improvements to groupings that must be done in the Spring if it is too late now.
Geranium 'Rozanne' is a cracking plant that flowers for months, but they do get very large after 3 or 4 years and need to be split to reduce their vigour.I will try and do this to 1 or 2 now, but line out the bits, tops and roots well trimmed, into the 'nursery' rather than into pots. It is too late for root growth now but they are very robust and will be O.K. sitting in the well drained soil until Spring. There is just not time to do every thing then!
Earlier, I split a clump of Pumonaria 'Diana Clare', as it is such a super plant with violet blue flowers standing out against the silver leaves in spring and staying fresh looking throughout summer, that everyone wants a bit. Kept moist, those' splits' are looking very perky.
Some plants MUST be left until growth starts in the spring, e.g. Sedums and grasses, so I try to make notes to remind me.... A gardeners work is never done!
