Snow Shapes
26/01/2008
The heavy 6 inch snowfall that we had on Monday {21st Jan] covered all the clipped trees and bushes showing up their shapes well. Even the bare beech held the snow with their dense growth of twiggy branches. Thirteen years ago we planted an assortment of holly and beech in front of the lower fence with no real plan, except to create a loose, sheltering hedge. When we noticed that they were out growing their position, we started clipping and the present repeated rounded shapes have gradually evolved, echoing the curves of the blue slatted fence and adding to the garden structure. I really enjoy them. D'ont let things get too big before clipping, and aim for simple, repeated shapes sympathetic to your garden environment. Have fun!
