Geums
//15/05/2009GEUMS - Colourful hardy plants for May.
I grow eight or nine different, Geums and enjoy their zingy colours. They make a valuable contribution to my marmalade patch in spring together with rusty grasses, Libertia Perigrenans, Euphorbia griffithii Dixter, and orange tulips.
The plants that were split in early autumn are noticeably much better than those that are 3 or 4 yrs old, with fresh foliage and lots more flowers. It is worth the effort, if you can find the time, to dig up old plants, pull apart, trim and replant into soil enriched with a little compost and a sprinkling of bone meal. Keep watered, and if it is very sunny, cover with a bit of fleece. They will soon look quite perky and grow roots before the cold weather slows growth.
